Conjunction คำสันธาน

Conjunction คือ คำที่ใช้เชื่อมระหว่างประโยคต่อประโยค คำต่อคำ หรือระหว่างกริยาต่อกริยา เช่น

-ประโยคต่อประโยค
I study English, but he studies French.
ฉันเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ แต่เขาเรียนภาษาฝรั่งเศส

-คำนามต่อนาม
A boy and a girl are dancing.
เด็กชายและเด็กหญิงกำลังเต้นรำ

-กริยาต่อกริยา
He comes and stays with me at home.
เขามาพักอยู่กับฉันที่บ้าน เป็นต้น

Conjunction แบ่งออกเป็น 2 ชนิดคือ
1. Conjunction คำเดียว (Single Conjuncton)
2. Conjunction วลีหรือผสม (Conjunction Phrase)

1. Conjunction คำเดียวที่พบเห็นบ่อย ๆ และใช้กันแพร่หลายมีดังต่อไปนี้
and,or,but,so,as,because,for,whether,until,after,before,if,though,that,when, besides เช่น

He is sick so he goes to see a doctor.
เขาไม่สบาย ดังนั้นเขาจึงไปหาหมอ ฯลฯ เป็นต้น

2. Conjunction วลีหรือ conjunction ผสมที่พบเห็นบ่อย ๆ ได้แก่คำต่อไปนี้ คือ
either.....or ไม่อันใดก็อันหนึ่ง
neither.....nor ไม่ทั้งสอง
as well as เช่นเดียวกันกับ
not only.....but also ไม่เพียงแต่.....เท่านั้น
-แต่อีกด้วย ทั้งหมดจะได้อธิบายเป็นรายตัว ดังต่อไปนี้

Either...or แปลว่า ไม่อันใดก็อันหนึ่ง ใช้สำหรับให้เลือกเอาอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง ถ้าไปควบประธาน 2 ตัว จะใช้
กริยาเป็นรูป เอกพจน์หรือพหูพจน์นั้นต้องถือตามประธานตัวหลัง เช่น
Either you or he is punished tonight. ไม่คุณก็เขาถูกลงโทษคืนนี้
Either he or I am mistaken. ไม่เขาก็ผมเป็นผู้ผิด เป็นต้น

Neither...nor แปลว่า "ไม่ทั้งสอง" ใช้สำหรับปฏิเสธโดยสิ้นเชิง ถ้าไปควบประธาน 2 ตัว จะใช้กริยาเอกพจน์หรือ
พหูพจน์นั้น ต้องถือตามประธานตัวหลังเช่นเดียวกัน เช่น
Neither her friends nor she speaks Chinese. ทั้งเพื่อนของเธอและเธอไม่พูดภาษาจีน
Neither you nor he studies mathematics. ทั้งคุณและเขาไม่ได้เรียนคณิตศาสตร์ เป็นต้น

as well as แปลว่า "เช่นเดียวกันกับ" เมื่อไปควบประธาน 2 ตัว จะใช้กริยาเป็นพจน์อะไรนั้นสำหรับตัวนี้ต้องถือเอาตาม ประธานที่อยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น
Manop as well as his friends is playing football. มานพก็เช่นเดียวกันกับเพื่อนของเขากำลังเล่นฟุตบอล
He as well as I is sick. เขาก็เช่นเดียวกันกับผมไม่สบาย เป็นต้น

Not only...but also แปลว่า "ไม่เพียงแต่...เท่านั้น แต่ยัง อีกด้วย" เราใช้สันธานวลีคำนี้ เพื่อเน้นน้ำหนักของข้อความ
ทั้งสองอย่างให้เด่นชัดขึ้นแต่สิ่งที่นำมาให้ ใช้หรือกล่าวถึงนั้น ต้องมีความสามารถไปทางเดียวกัน เช่น ดีก็ดีด้วยกัน เช่น
Malisa is not beautiful but also clever. มาลิสาไม่เพียงแต่สวยเท่านั้น แต่ยังฉลาดอีกด้วย
Wichai is not only stupid but also lazy. วิชัยไม่ใช่เพียงแต่โง่เท่านั้น แต่ยังขี้เกียจอีกด้วย

***not only.......but also "อนึ่งถ้า" ไปใช้เชื่อมประธาน 2 ตัว จะใช้กริยาเป็นพจน์อะไรนั้นต้องถือตามประธานตัวหลัง
Not only your friends but also your sister wants to see the cinema tonight.
ไม่เพียงแต่เพื่อนของท่านเท่านั้น แต่น้องสาวของท่านด้วยที่ต้องการไปดูหนังคืนนี้
Not only I but also my friends are studying English every day.
ไม่เพียงแต่ผมเท่านั้น แต่เพื่อนของผมอีกด้วยที่กำลังเรียนภาษาอังกฤษทุก ๆ วัน
